“Monte León” National Park is located on the coast of the Argentine Sea, south of “Comandante Luis Piedrabuena” (35 km) and north of Río Gallegos (210 km), in the province of Santa Cruz. It covers an area of 62,169 acres, belonging to the Patagonian Steppe ecoregion, which it protects. The central icon of the landscape is a peninsula of land resembling a recumbent lion called “Cabeza del León,” which gives the park its name. It was created in 1997.
