Beaches

The Patagonian coast offers the opportunity to combine beach days with water sports and marine wildlife watching.

In Río Negro, the beach resort El Cóndor—30 km from Viedma—is a coastal village that resembles a typical coastal town with places for rest and recreation. The beaches of this resort boast warm, clear waters, fine sand, and low shorelines that allow you to enjoy the rocky landscape of the cliffs, where the world’s largest colony of cliff parrots nests.

The beaches of Las Grutas are renowned for their warm, calm waters. The setting is provided by wave-eroded cliffs that form caves and offer shelter from the Patagonian wind. The wide coastline, with dunes and cliffs of clean, white sand, invites long walks, quadricycles rides, and sandboarding.

The southernmost beach resort in the province is Playas Doradas, with its extensive blanket of fine sand, a mixture of quartz and shells, giving rise to the place’s name. The site remains wild and natural, ensuring a relaxing holiday and days of sun and relaxation.

Chubut also offers the opportunity to experience the beach, where the sea and sun blend with wildlife viewing, diving, snorkeling with sea lions, and the plateau landscape.

In Puerto Madryn, as well as in Puerto Pirámides, Playa Unión, Camarones, and Rada Tilly, there are water sports activities on the beach, and in the summer, wildlife viewing is available nearby: from sea lions and elephant seals to dolphins, porpoises, and killer whales. The atmosphere is peaceful and family-friendly, and, contrary to what some might imagine, the temperature is very pleasant, reaching over 30°C in the summer.

Beach resorts open their doors to welcome visitors with restaurants, cafes, seafood-based cuisine, and activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, diving, surfing, and kitesurfing. Playa Unión is ideal for these last two activities due to the area’s strong waves.

Rada Tilly also offers sand yachting and classic activities such as hockey, volleyball, and beach soccer. If you happen to be there during the full moon, trekking in the “Punta Marqués” Protected Natural Area is a must.

Puerto Madryn is a city that offers a wide range of activities, shows, excellent seaside cuisine, and nine accessible and fully equipped beach resorts where you can enjoy the sun and the sand, with music in the beach bars, and water sports and recreational activities for children and adults.

Puerto Pirámides, a small coastal village within the Valdés Peninsula Protected Area, is an ideal summer destination for its tranquility, calm waters, and unique landscape, framed by tamarisks, dunes, and cliffs. It is the perfect setting for various water activities, including diving excursions, kayak rentals and trips, boat trips, and boat and shore fishing.

Furthermore, the mountainous region of Patagonia also offers the opportunity to enjoy long days of sun and sand, on the shores of crystal-clear lakes and in mountainous surroundings.

The temperature of the water bodies varies from lake to lake, with some being very pleasant for swimming and cooling off. Their calm waters make them ideal spots for water sports, including sailing, canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and many other options offered at various locations.

Every day, families and groups of friends gather to share a picnic, drink mate, and even play guitar, on a day at the beach that offers a unique landscape brimming with nature.
