How to get there

By air

From Buenos Aires, the capital of the Argentine Republic, flights depart to all tourist destinations in Patagonia with high daily frequency. Some destinations in the region are connected by air to other cities in the interior of the country, and others have intraregional connectivity. We suggest checking with the airlines for flight availability at any given time of the year. Currently, the airlines that connect to southern Argentina are: “Aerolíneas Argentinas” (www.aerolineas.com.ar), LADE (lade.faa.mil.ar), Sky Airline (www.skyairline.com), Flybondi (www.flybondi.com), and Jet Smart (www.jetsmart.com).

By land

In your own vehicle: The most convenient route to reach Patagonia will depend on your starting point. Two extensive routes crisscross the region from north to south: National Route No. 3 and National Route No. 40. In the Circuits section, we suggest some routes based on these highways. If your destination is the Province of La Pampa, from the Federal Capital and the center of the province of Buenos Aires, you can arrive via National Route No. 5, which is fully paved to Santa Rosa. Keep in mind that if you are traveling through Patagonia in winter, the roads are often snowy, so it is necessary to take the appropriate precautions (see “Routes and Roads”).

By bus: There are multiple options for reaching Patagonia on long-distance buses. Many companies connect to different destinations in the region from all cities across the country. Also important is the range of services between Patagonian localities, allowing you to explore several destinations in a single trip.

By sea

An alternative that offers a different perspective of Patagonia is tourist cruises. There are a wide range of options to board a ship departing from Buenos Aires or Chile, visiting different ports in the region and accessing the tourist attractions in those locations. In summer, it is even possible to reach Antarctica.
