Wines and Flavors of Chubut

Chubut

The province of Chubut invites you to discover a wine tourism experience that spans mountain valleys, plateaus, and historic towns. An itinerary that combines Patagonian vineyards, authentic flavors, and breathtaking landscapes.

The “Wines and Flavors of Chubut” program runs from September to May, with the ideal time being between late February and mid-May, during the grape harvest season, depending on the region. During the winter, many of the routes become difficult to navigate, so this experience is not recommended.

The tour begins with arrival at Bariloche Airport, from where a five-day itinerary begins, passing through the towns of Lake Puelo, El Hoyo, Trevelin, Gualjaina, Paso del Sapo, Los Altares, Gaiman, and Trelew. Along the way, visits to various Chubut wineries will allow you to go behind the scenes at the birth of each wine: from the work in the vineyard to its production.

A scenic drive leads to Lake Puelo, surrounded by forests and mountain lakes. The experience begins with a visit to the Hansen Becerra and Adamow wineries, where you can tour their vineyards and taste their wines.

The itinerary continues in El Hoyo, home to the Patagonia Wines winery, surrounded by stunning scenery, and the charming Patagonia Labyrinth, a unique experience combining wine tourism and recreation among vineyards.

Continuing south along the iconic Route 40, the next destination is Trevelin, a town with Welsh roots nestled between mountains and fertile valleys. There, you can visit “Valle Andino,” a rural beekeeping establishment, and tour the “Viñas Nant y Fall” and “Contra Corriente” wineries, which impress with their cool-climate wines, especially Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay.

The adventure continues toward the Chubut steppe along Route 12, heading to “Gualjaina,” home to the “Cielos de Gualjaina” winery and the Huancache Viewpoint, which offers one of the most spectacular views of the Patagonian landscape.

In “Paso del Sapo,” we are welcomed by the “Rincón de los Leones” winery, on the central plateau on the banks of the Chubut River, and then continue on to “Los Altares,” a place surrounded by rock formations and otherworldly landscapes. There, the “Los Altares” Winery is a true oasis in the vastness.

Continuing towards the coast, we will arrive at Gaiman, a village rich in Welsh culture and recognized as a Best Tourism Village by the UN. Here you can visit “Bardas al Sur,” a destination that combines agroecological production and gastronomic experiences, and continue with a local classic: the traditional Tea House, where you can sample Welsh cakes, homemade sweets, and traditional baked goods.

We conclude the tour in the city of Trelew, where the “Punta Ninfas” vineyards and the “Estancia Las Bardas” await, finishing the day with an experience that combines wine, history, and nature.

“Wines and Flavors of Chubut” is an invitation to discover a province through its roots, its aromas, and its people. An ideal experience for those seeking to connect with Patagonian authenticity through wine, gastronomy, and inspiring landscapes.
